The Seasons

Picture

Winter’s nights so dark and drawn, staying cold right through ‘till dawn
Rain, sleet and snow the common trend, it seems this season will never end
Sometimes the days are crisp and blue, snow crystals sparkle as the sun breaks through
The kids are out with their sledge and wellies, a break from huddling around the telly
Christmas time brings family cheer, and before you know it there’s another year
We persevere as best we can, a summer holiday in the sun we plan
That cheers us up it makes us sing, as just around the corner we know is Spring

Spring arrives and buds appear, the songbirds chime to announce it’s here
April showers are a bit of a pain, we want to get out, “please go away rain”,
As days go by the thermometer rises, there’s an Easter parade and well-won prizes
A chocolate egg in box so neat, and a day to see Mother to give her a treat
The greenest of fingers are out in force, it’s time for the first cut of course
But be aware there could still be frost, our precious plants could be lost
Lambs are jumping watched closely by mother, it won’t be long before it is Summer

Summer’s here at last we cry, a chance for a few days that are dry
Tee shirts and shorts are the weekends attire, the heatings off, no need for the fire
Everyone attends the Village Fete, get the kids in the car we don’t want to be late
The picnic is packed the blankets too, lunching on sandwiches and a drink or two
We go abroad for our annual break, as it still rains at home so no chance will we take
Some are braver they’re at the station, this year there going to try a Staycation
All of a sudden summer weeks seem forgotten, as the nights draw in and we drift into Autumn

Autumn’s the season which can often surprise, late summer warmth and beautiful skies
Wonderful colours as the trees start to turn, nature provides us with lots we can learn
Kicking through leaves on a forest walk, of next years’ holiday perhaps we will talk
Reflecting on the the year we’ve had, things we enjoyed or that drove us mad
Contemplating the cold months ahead, the thought of Winter fills us with dread
Life’s full of challenges we look for the reasons, why they’re ever-changing, just like the seasons
