It's noisy and oily and prone to break down
It takes lots of your money, leaves you stranded in town Spare parts you will search for at the jumble fair That elusive item that's ever so rare You fix it and tune it, spend hours underneath The key turns, the engine fires, what an enormous relief You polish and clean it, 'till it glimmers and shines That wonderful chrome work, those beautiful lines You meet at the car club and talk pistons and rings The engines are started, the whole neighbourhood sings The drive in the sunshine brings adoring smiles Today your old girl will take you for miles Our modern cars have all the tricks They seldom breakdown, but are not easy to fix They transport us in comfort and can take us far But they don't have the magic of a classic car |
